These are the main options that you have for raising extra cash in the business:
Introducing further cash yourself
Asset based finance
An increase in existing bank overdraft / lending facilities
A private equity / angel investor
Click on the links to the left to explore the advantages and disadvantages of each of the above sources of cash, and what issues you should bear in mind when assessing which option to take.
I find that the mere introduction of more money into the business does not solve its problems once and for all. This is because the reason for those problems probably lies elsewhere. Unless you deal conclusively with the causes of the financial problems, they will merely recur, but next time around you will have fewer options for dealing with them - the cash and operational difficulties will have become worse, and you may end up having only one option, that of formal insolvency.
As a turnaround and insolvency practitioner my role involves:
Explore the underlying causes of the problems, and helping resolve them so that you do not throw good money after bad;
Helping you find the right refinancing package for you;
Helping you best manage your relationships with your creditors and existing bankers.
Read all these sections on refinancing the business before you make a decision, they contain some helpful tips.
